"Lion" for the thick fur on his shoulders and neck, and his golden-brown pelt color. "-cloud" for his surprisingly gentle, calm nature.

For such a huge cat, Lioncloud is known for his kind, caring nature and the innate ability to calm even the roughest of storms within his Clan. He is Dawnstar's mate and one of her chiefest advisers.

History: Lioncloud, as a kit, had two very rowdy brothers. They picked on him often for not wanting to play rough games with them, but they were all rather close. As apprentices, Lionpaw and his brothers got into a few accounts of trouble - none of it was Lionpaw's fault though. As much as he tried to talk his brothers out of trouble, they never listened.
They became warriors two moons after Dawnpaw (Dawnstar) and Emberpaw (Emberfang) became apprentices. Lioncloud almost always offered to help with the apprentices, and though he was usually denied, he was eventually given an apprentice of his own. When Dawnpaw and Emberpaw became warriors, they began patrolling and hunting together more and more often, and Lioncloud began to realize his feelings for Dawnstorm.
It was the effort of Emberjaw and his brothers that pushed Lioncloud and Dawnstorm to finally meet together, alone, by the lake at sunset. There, they became mates.
Soon after, a badger was sighted in their territory. Lioncloud, one of his brothers, and a few other warriors went out to drive it away - and Lioncloud's brother was killed in the process. They drove the badger away, but Lioncloud's brother's spine had snapped, and he died from internal bleeding.
What plans Lioncloud and Dawnstorm had for kits were put on hold when Dawnstorm and Emberjaw had their falling-out, and Dawnstorm became deputy.
When ShadowClan attacked Emberjaw was not the only casualty - Lioncloud's eldest brother was severely wounded in the thick of the fighting, and died of infected wounds days later. The loss hurt him deeply, and Lioncloud still feels the loss of two of his closest companions, as hard as Dawnstorm felt the loss of her sister.
Together, he and Dawnstorm took care of Firekit, Emberjaw's half-ShadowClan son. Lioncloud taught him wisdom and courage, while Dawnstorm taught him the basics of the warrior code and fighting. Together they helped him through his apprenticeship, treating him as if he were their own kit.
During the last leaf-bare, Lioncloud was hit hard by greencough - he lived through it, but is still recovering from its devastating affects. He cannot run as fast as other warriors, though he can hunt and fight just as hard. The medicine cat has decided that until he recovers completely he should stay away from battles.
He and Dawnstar are still planning on having kits, but Dawnstar insists that he be fully recovered before they try.
